What's the difference between first fix and second fix electrical work?

First fix is the wiring stage, run through the frame before plaster goes on, and it's permanent once the walls close up. Second fix happens after linings, plaster and paint are done, when we fit the visible parts: power points, switches, downlights and switchboards. Both stages matter equally. Get first fix wrong and you're opening walls to fix it; get second fix wrong and your home just doesn't work the way you expected day to day.

Do granny flats and duplexes need a separate switchboard?

Usually, yes. A granny flat or a duplex is generally metered and switched separately from the main dwelling, so each home has its own consumer mains, switchboard and safety switches. We size each board to its own load calculation rather than sharing capacity with the main house, which keeps both dwellings compliant and protects you if one is ever sold, rented or sub-metered independently down the track.

Can I add a pool, spa or outdoor kitchen after the electrical is already installed?

You can, but it's far cheaper if we know about it during the design phase. Pools and spas need their own dedicated circuits, RCD protection and equipotential bonding under AS/NZS 3000, and outdoor kitchens usually need weatherproof power and lighting circuits run to a specific spot. If there's any chance you'll add one later, tell us at the planning stage so we can allow for it in your switchboard capacity and cable runs now.

Should my new build have single-phase or three-phase power?

It depends on your home's total electrical load. Single-phase covers most standard new builds comfortably, but three-phase is worth considering if you're running ducted air conditioning, a large heat pump hot water system, an EV charger and a pool pump all off the same switchboard. We work this out during the AS/NZS 3000 load calculation at design stage, so you're not paying for capacity you don't need or under-sizing for what you do.

What does the lifetime labour guarantee actually cover?

It means if the workmanship on an installation we completed ever fails, we come back and fix it, in writing, for as long as the product installed is in service, not for a fixed warranty period that runs out.
