Do I need solar panels to install an EV charger?
No, solar isn't required for EV charger installation on the Central Coast, and most of our residential jobs go into homes without it. If you do have solar, or you're planning it, we can fit a smart charger with CT clamp capability so excess generation charges your car instead of exporting to the grid. Eagle Service Solutions asks about solar at the site assessment stage either way, since it can change which charger suits your property.
What happens if my switchboard doesn't have enough capacity for an EV charger?
Many older Central Coast homes have switchboards with no spare breaker slots or wiring that can't safely take an EV charger's extra load. Eagle Service Solutions identifies this at your free site assessment, then recommends a fix that suits your budget: a switchboard upgrade, a larger main switch, or a smart charger with load management that limits current to stay within your existing capacity. Often the smart-charger option means you avoid an upgrade altogether.
Are there rebates or grants available for EV charger installation on the Central Coast?
Yes, several NSW Government programs can reduce the cost. The NSW Home Energy Saver Program offers zero-interest loans up to A$15,000 or discounts up to A$4,000 for eligible households, while the NSW EV Destination Charging Grants co-fund up to 75% of eligible commercial and public installations across regional NSW. Can I install an EV charger in a rental property?
