The Central Coast doesn't have its own electricity network operator — Ausgrid, the largest electricity distributor on Australia's east coast, delivers power here as well as to Sydney and the Hunter Valley, across a service area of roughly 22,275km². Ausgrid maintains the poles, wires and substations; your retailer (AGL, Origin, etc.) is a separate company that just bills you for the power.

The Central Coast sits inside the Hunter–Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone, a NSW Government project that's the first in Australia to upgrade existing poles and wires rather than build new transmission lines from scratch. Ausgrid is the appointed network operator, with initial capacity available from early 2026 and full capacity targeted for 2028.
Any electrical work needs a licensed electrician.
In NSW, all electrical wiring work — no matter how small, must be done by, or supervised by, a licensed electrician, regulated through Building Commission NSW. Every job also requires a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW) to be lodged within 7 days of testing.
Homes need at least two safety switches.
Under the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules, residential properties require a minimum of two residual current devices (RCDs), one for power circuits and one for lighting, to protect against electric shock.

Since July 2025, NSW offers up to $1,500 for connecting an eligible home battery to a Virtual Power Plant, and this stacks directly with the Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program, together worth thousands of dollars in upfront benefits on a typical system.
